Frostschutzengel - Counseling for homeless people
In Berlin, more and more people are living on the streets or in emergency shelters, and there is an increasing number of homeless people, not only from Germany, but also from other EU countries. The hurdles for these people to take advantage of the regular help system are higher, due to language barriers, difficult access to social benefits and lack of knowledge about the help system and their own rights. We would like to close this gap. We offer these people counseling and support.
We offer:
Outreach, multilingual counseling in facilities of the low-threshold homeless assistance (you can find a current schedule under the point Counseling)
Initial counseling / clearing
(Intensive) counseling and support on the topics of subsistence benefits (SGBII, SGBXII), homeless assistance (accommodation according to ASOG), migration-specific topics, document procurement, basic medical care, information on the assistance system
Referral to further specialized counseling centers and other further assistance.
Goal of counseling:
Improvement of the life situation
Finding a perspective and planning the first steps
Intensive networking with the help system and the districts in order to establish ideal referral channels.
The project is funded by the Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs (SenIAS). The previous project Frostschutzengel plus was awarded the "FEANTSA Ending Homelessness Award 2018" in November 2018. To date, we can draw on the expertise of recent years and are constantly developing our concept in line with requirements.
